Catholic Schools Week Mass at St. Mary's Visitation Grade School
Click to view images Among those present was Sister Betty Uchytil, who was the last in a 140-year line of SSNDs working at the school. Faculty at St. Mary's Visitation presented each sister with a yellow rose. At the celebration, faculty and students honored School Sisters of Notre Dame for their years of service in education. St. Mary's Visitation School in Elm Grove, WI was founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1859. The new council received the African symbol of unity to remind them to lead the sisters to stay united in a divided world. The border has an Adinkra symbol from the Ashanti region of Ghana. This is known as the Gye Nyame, meaning “except for God." SSNDs of the new province present for the celebration wearing specially printed cloth, a tradition for special occasions Sisters Angela Amaka Ezugwu, Paulina Raymond, Patricia Rass and Eunice Uwer Dagi hosted a celebration in Milwaukee. SSNDs in Milwaukee recite a Psalm for Africa during their celebration. SSNDs in Milwaukee celebrated the formation of the new province with a prayer service and cake.
