SSNDs Support Nuns on the Bus 2014

SSNDs also rode with and supported the Nuns on the Bus Tour in 2013.

SSND to ride with tour in Minnesota

A School Sister of Notre Dame will be joining the Nuns on the Bus tour when it stops in Mankato, Minnesota, next week to rally support for voter education and mobilization.

Sister Alice Zachmann, SSND, will ride the bus from Sept. 22- 24 through Minnesota where it will stop in St. Joseph, Duluth and St. Paul.

Making voices heard

The Nuns on the Bus tour, led by Sister Simone Campbell, SSS, executive director of Network, began on Sept. 17 in Des Moines, Iowa, with a focus on ensuring that disenfranchised know how to make their voices heard in the political system.

The bus, this year, is emblazoned with the words “We the People, We the Voters.” The exterior will have places where people can sign their names, pledging to be active members of the voting community.

It is the third tour in three years. Last year, two SSNDs rode on the bus tour to raise awareness about immigration reform, and many other SSNDs joined in rallies as it stopped throughout the United States. (SSNDs shared their reports, photos and audio reflections throughout the tour.)

'Get Out the Vote' rally

During the stop in Mankato, where Sister Alice will join the tour, SSNDs will be present for the non-partisan “Get Out the Vote” rally coordinated by the YMCA from noon to 2 p.m. at 209 North Riverfront Ave. (next to the library), said Sister Jeanne Wingenger, who is with the Shalom-Justice, Peace & Integrity of Creation Office in the SSND Central Pacific Province.

Flyers have been sent out encouraging folks to join Sister Simone Campbell, a YWCA National Woman of Distinction, and her fellow nuns for their 2014 Nuns on the Bus Tour,” Sister Jeanne said. “Both organizations are committed to voter education and mobilization, so please join us to hear more on Sept. 22.”
