The Notre Dame Motherhouse once housed Notre Dame Academy which offered high school education for "day hops" (day students) and boarders from as far away as Mexico, the West Indies, South America and Hong Kong.

Until the local Catholic school was built in 1951, elementary school children also attended classes at Notre Dame.

Although the Academy closed it doors in 1983, many former students maintain contact with their NDA teachers. The most recent reunion was in 2011.

A former student who attended the 2002 reunion said: “My five years there meant a well-rounded education in the company of women from around the world. I was fortunate to be exposed to different cultures, languages and religions which helped give me an open-minded world view. While stressing academic excellence, Notre Dame Academy in Waterdown also encouraged development of the whole person.”
