Province

The new Province of Africa was formed on August 28, 2011.

United we go out into the whole world, into the tiniest villages, into the poorest dwellings, wherever we are called to bring the Good News of the Reign of God."

I am Sister Bernadette B. Amimi, from the Efik Tribe in Cross River State, Nigeria. I was born into the family of the late Mr. and Mrs. B. Amimi in 1964, a family blessed with ten children of which I am the ninth.

My birth place of Calabar is a beautiful town with nice scenery to behold. I joined the SSND family on August 15, 1989, with a deep desire to experience Jesus in my life and to be able to reach out to others, especially the poor, through teaching. My hobbies include reading, writing, planting flowers and visiting. One of my deepest desires is to leave any place I have been better than I found it.

I obtained a National Certificate in Education (N.C.E.) and a Bachelor Degree in Education/English. I have taught English and Literature in our government secondary schools. Presently, in our newest community in Lafia Diocese, I am working in Our Lady of Apostles Girls College, Akwanga. This is a secondary school with boarding for girls. I am now the principal of this large school.

The task of grooming young ones is a noble but difficult one. I rely on God’s grace, your prayers and support in whatever way to enable me to do this successfully. There are many needs in the school such as building a good library, setting up a science lab, and having good boarding facilities. We are hoping to begin a poultry project, raising chickens, in order to have an income-generating possibility to help support the school. We would truly appreciate any help with this venture!

Thank you and remain blessed!
