Trusting in a faithful God, School Sisters of Notre Dame profess three vows: Consecrated Celibacy, Gospel Poverty and Apostolic Obedience in Community. These vows express the totality of our commitment to God and to the members of our SSND Congregation. For us, life in community is a giving and a receiving of love and respect, of trust, openness, sincerity and forgiveness. Through our presence to and for one another, through prayer, dialog and ministry, we become a community of one mind and one heart.

Sister Katie Frank
Milwaukee Province

Sister KatieSister Katie celebrated her perpetual profession on June 14 at Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Growing up as a Lutheran, Sister Katie remembers wishing that she could dedicate her life to serving God and helping people as a minister in the church. However, her life took a differen path, and she worked as a bank teller, married a Catholic and converted to Catholicism. After her 20-year marriage ended, her thoughts of religious life persisted. “For me, it was listening to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Deep in my heart, I felt called to religious life.” Finally, during a retreat, she spoke about this with a spiritual director and was encouraged to follow her heart. She entered the SSND community and embarked on the formation process that would encompass 10 years. Sister Katie currently works at St. Ann Place in West Palm Beach, Florida, where she assists homeless clients. As a religious sister, she believes it is possible to accomplish much more than she could on her own. To see more photos, please click here.

Sister Bridget Waldorf
Mankato Province

BridgetSister Bridget celebrated her final vows on October 26, 2008, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Chapel in Mankato, Minnesota. Bridget writes, "In Paul's letter to the Philippians (2:1-11) he urges the community, 'Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus.' I sit with that singular thought of choosing to love – without knowing, without having guarantees - just doing it because it is the only way to respond to God's generous, gracious love of us and I can say 'yes.' Because at the end of the day – every day – Providence does move. God responds and we can trust God. There is encouragement in Christ; there is consolation from love; there is sharing in the Spirit; there is compassion and sympathy. Our joy can be complete. I say 'yes'" and I am humbled and excited at the thought of my 'yes' being spoken here - forever - as a beloved daughter of Theresa, a School Sister of Notre Dame." Sister Kathleen Ravn
Mankato Province

vowsSister Kathleen (far right) celebrated her final vows on May 10, 2008, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Chapel in Mankato, Minnesota. "In the years since first profession, I have learned that community life fosters the oneness in God that Christ proclaimed," Sister Kathleen said. "Life in community helps you deepen your relationship with God. In community, you realize that we are all one with each other and with God. No one is an island. Community life allows us to be about the mission of Christ, which is to spread the good news of God’s love for all of us."

Sister Sandra Helton
Dallas Province

Sister Sandra celebrated her perpetual profession as a School Sister of Notre Dame on March 15, 2008. On the day of the ceremony, Sister Sandra reflected, "With God's unconditional love, and grace, I have been walking this Christian journey toward total communion with God. I still hear the Spirit's movement within me calling me to continue to live as a vowed member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame. The fire of God's love and my desire to be in God's will moves my heart, mind and soul. Simply put, church, my soul says, 'Yes.'  I ask your support and acceptance for perpetual profession of my vows today." To see more photos from this joyous occasion, please click here.
