Promoting Sustainability – Making a Difference
The Green Habit Campaign is an initiative of the School Sisters of Notre Dame Green Team to recognize and promote sustainable living practices.
The basics of the campaign are very simple – to identify our existing green habits, hold them up so we may inspire each other, and see what a difference we can make together!
Consumption Consequences/Sustainable Solutions
Here you’ll find the background behind the campaign. You will learn about unsustainable consumption and the impact it is having on people and our environment. For example, did you know that if everyone in the world consumed like we do in the U.S. we would need up to five Earths worth of resources to support these habits? You’ll also learn how pursuing sustainable living can really make a difference!
Our Green Habits
Next, check out our “Green Habits.” No, the sisters aren’t wearing green head gear these days. By green habits, we mean the things sisters, and others who have joined the campaign, are doing to promote sustainable living, i.e., the things they are doing at home or work that reflect care for our planet and each other. Perhaps they may inspire new habits for you.
What are your green habits? Can you add your ideas to our list?
Green Resources
There are lots of resources available to learn more about sustainable living (going green) at home and work. Be sure to check out our Green Resources and our e-newsletter, The Green Sheet, for helpful tips and interesting facts. You can even request a speaker for your group!
Join Us – Take the Pledge!
Individuals and groups can join the sisters in the Green Habit Campaign by taking the Green Habit Pledge. Are you ready to commit to pursuing a sustainable lifestyle?
“Let ours be a time remembered for the awakening of a new reverence for life, the firm resolve to achieve sustainability, the quickening of the struggle for justice and peace, and the joyful celebration of life.”
