UNICEF's Working Group on Girls honors 2 students
in SSND delegation attending CSW from Ghana, Peru

         Nine students attending the Commission on the Status of Women conference, including two with the School Sisters of Notre Dame delegation, were honored at a "Celebration of Girls" reception Wednesday, sponsored by the UNICEF's Working Group on Girls.
         Each of the honorees received a Mary Purcell Grant, which made her participation at the CSW possible. Each girl also received an incentive grant to use to implement a project to benefit girls when she returns to her home country.


Vanessa Juarez Arevalo, a student at Mother Theresa Technical Secondary School in Piura, Peru, accepts a grant from Ana Martinez de Luco, of the Working Group on Girls.


Agnes Agyemang-Barnie, a student at Notre Dame Secondary School in Sunyani, Ghana, accepts her Mary Purcell Grant. Accompanying her are (from left) S. Ann Scholz, SSND, co-chair of the Working Group on Girls; Sr. Leonora Tucker, SSND, a teacher at Agnes' school, and Catherine Moore, who presented the award for the Working Group on Girls.


The SSND delegation to the CSW included eight students, who attended the Celebrating Girls reception.
